Which is Best Water Filter For Home?

Which Is the Best Water Filter For Home?

As you know, many types of water filters for homes nowadays exist. So, it is so difficult to find the best one. Some think the PUR brand is best because Barbara Boxer endorses it. However, PUR says its filter reduces only a few tap water contaminants and doesn’t mention fluoride! Also, they don’t mention how effective their filters are (they even say that their filters last for 100 gallons (approx 380 liters).

That’s a very optimistic statement if you ask me). Brita water filter system claims to reduce chlorine but not fluoride or other harmful substances like lead or arsenic found in some places. Reverse osmosis removes mostly everything including toxic fluoride. It should be used with the remineralization stage to prevent demineralization, which happens when boiling water OR if you don’t remineralize RO water. On the other side, many claim that reverse osmosis wastes too much water and is not eco-friendly at all.

Can we drink RO water daily?

I am not here to recommend another filter or RO system because my family is using the Aquaphor filter system (RO + demineralization)  and I am very happy with it. Even though they claim to remove fluoride, everything I read about their filters says they do so very effectively. Of course, there are no scientific papers published by them, but based on my extensive research online, I know that it removes fluoride perfectly well.

I have to say that if you are drinking water from a tap, then you should probably choose either RO or distillation methods. These are the only two methods that remove fluoride very effectively. If your water comes from deep underground sources (not standing water in wells) and is free of heavy metals, chemicals, and other contaminants, then filters may be enough for you.

Before buying any water treatment system, ask your local environmental protection agency or professionals who work with tap water in your area what type of filtering technique they recommend. Also, search online how many contaminants your water supply has according to various research studies made around the world! The more bad news there is about the quality of our drinking water, the better chances are that these techniques will be necessary for you.

What is the highest quality water?

Distillation is the only way to ensure you drink the highest quality (cleanest) water. Distillation means boiling water and collecting vaporized steam from it, so the purest portion of our drinking water evaporates during this process. It is the cleanest; however, it takes a long time to get it ready for use (normally 2-3 hours).

Another option is to buy commercially made distilled water in bottles but bear in mind that not all companies distill their product! The problem with this method is that it requires careful monitoring. Otherwise, minerals will evaporate too, which leaves us with demineralized water, which doesn’t have minerals essential for our body. Mineral salts must be added, therefore, to distilled water to keep it in appropriate balance otherwise, health consequences from drinking distilled water over a long period can be terrible!

What is the disadvantage of RO water?

Reverse osmosis, or RO, removes most minerals from water, including healthy ones. This means that you should remineralize RO water before drinking it.

I am not going to tell too much about this method because I don’t know enough about it, and I think the Aquaphor filter does a better job at removing fluoride from tap water without wasting too much water or leaving us with demineralized water.

How safe is aquaguard water?

This brand has been subject to many controversies in India lately. I heard that some of the bottled water they produced was contaminated and unfit for human consumption. The controversy made me do extensive research about this water filter. After looking at all reports and tests I did, based on my opinion, it does not remove fluoride very effectively (please check out my video below) but may be suitable for other contaminants, especially when combined with post fluoride remineralization process.

Which home treatment system is safest?

The best way to provide your family with clean drinking water is distillation or reverse osmosis because only these two methods remove the most harmful substances from tap water, such as fluoride, bacteria, microplastics, etc. Other methods mentioned above may be good for taste, filtering heavy metals, etc. but are not sufficient to guarantee drinking water’s safety.
